My Two Cents |Honey harvest has begun

The honey harvest has begun. As I have written many times, my honey bee operation would be considered a small commercial operation. This year I started out with approximately 400 colonies of honey bees.

I drove to St. Thomas earlier this week to pick up my daughter from a friend’s house. I got to town and texted her; a minute later my phone rang and it was her of course. Can you guess what she wanted? You got it, to spend the night with her friend on her very last night of summer vacation.

My highlight of the week was getting out on the water and doing some fishing with my family. It was a timely adventure, as fishing was hot on my mind after attending the Catfish Tournament the week prior.

Garage sales On Monday morning Saralee Hoselton took the PCMT van to Grand Forks and East Grand Forks where she ran some errands and had lunch at Arby’s. That evening Ken and Liz Linster took her to the St. Thomas United Methodist Church where they attended a meeting of the North Eastern District.

Slowly but surely, the farmyard is disappearing. Soon, all that will remain will be a pole shed and scores of memories from my childhood.

I feel as though everywhere I look, I’m reminded that summer is almost over. A lot of the content in this week’s paper even says so. Parents and children are busy preparing for the back to school buzz and folks are gearing up for the cozy fall vibes.

When my oldest daughter entered the first grade, she got a sudden case of, “don’t leave me.” It took me by sur- because she loved school and her teacher and classroom friends. In spite of all that, she clung to me every time I took her to school.

My Two Cents | You’ve got to start somewhere

As you can tell by our front page, another big catfishing tournament has come and gone for Drayton, North Dakota. The tournament has evolved over the past 20 plus years, but I can say I had a hand in the first one more than 20 years ago.
