I feel as though everywhere I look, I’m reminded that summer is almost over. A lot of the content in this week’s paper even says so. Parents and children are busy preparing for the back to school buzz and folks are gearing up for the cozy fall vibes.

When my oldest daughter entered the first grade, she got a sudden case of, “don’t leave me.” It took me by sur- because she loved school and her teacher and classroom friends. In spite of all that, she clung to me every time I took her to school.

As you can tell by our front page, another big catfishing tournament has come and gone for Drayton, North Dakota. The tournament has evolved over the past 20 plus years, but I can say I had a hand in the first one more than 20 years ago.

Stephen King fans will likely get that reference, everyone else just take my word for it - I am not the infamous Walking Dude from King’s novel “The Stand.” He was one evil dude; me, I like to think I’m a pretty nice guy. Having thoroughly confused everyone, maybe I should just get to the point.

When I see the title “What I did on my Summer Vacation” I think of the comedy bit by Cheech and Chong, where Tommy Chong reads his paper of the same title in English class and he drones the same information over and over.

My columns have been horse crazy here lately, but I’m just fine with that. The weather is perfect for some equine therapy, so I’ve been spending as much time as I can with my girls. Sassafras, my 15 year old paso fino/ arabian cross mare, and I had a first last weekend - we rode in a parade!

Hello from Colorado! I am on a vacation with my girls to visit my Colorado family. There are a few smaller cities south of Denver and Aurora, and then south of them, there is ranch country. That’s where I am writing from this week, a country home near Elizabeth, Colorado.
