Fall makes me want to cook savory food. I’ve been doing that with some help from 1878 Grocery Company, where I found very large, fresh, and ‘meaty’ jalapenos for the salsa I planned to can. I also found a good price on a ham that I used in ham and bean soup in the crock pot last weekend.

The kids and I had a great weekend at home this past week. With only one place to be (church on Sunday) we had the weekend wide open to do what we wanted to do. That is rare and won’t likely happen again any time soon. I said ‘yes’ to a Friday sleepover so I had three girls running around.

It doesn’t take a lot to entertain my husband and I. I’m an only child and Phil is eight years senior to his little sister. I’ve gathered from stories we’ve shared that we both filled a lot of time from our formative years playing with mud, sticks, and rocks.

As I write today, I am enjoying a refreshing cool fall breeze through my window and the only sound I hear is that of a few yard crickets. The television is off, the dog is asleep, and my home is as peaceful as can be. I will soak it in.

I’ve noticed I’ve taken a liking to writing my weekly column outside. I’m currently perched on the bench outback from my office enjoying the crisp FALL morning air. I’d better get my outside writing done while I can.
