Letter from the Publisher

I wish a very merry Christmas to each and every one of you. This is probably my busiest time of year and I expect that many of you are in the same boat.

An Eclectic Editor:

I had planned to start writing my column from the truck (once again!) today but the state of North Dakota must not want us to leave. I’ve been closely watching the cameras and map all morning on the NDDOT website and Phil and I have been playing things by ear.

My Two Cents | Fun, like the good ol’ days

Ever since I was a kid, there’s always been something special about snow. I’ve also had a special place in my heart for that heavy, wet snow that usually comes in the spring – the kind that is perfect for making snow forts and snowmen and snowballs, which in turn help to facilitate snowball fights.

Lisa Jackson of Falcon Heights, Minnesota arrived Dec. 1 at the home of Saralee Hoselton. The next morning they left and went to Café Robert inside Scheels Hardware in Fargo where they met Ardis Haaland for lunch.

Every year at this time we pay a lot of attention to Mary, and rightly so. After all she was the mother of the Savior. The story of her pregnancy and the birth of Jesus Christ is the opening shot in the New Testament.

We celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25, but it is generally acknowledged that it is not His actual birth date. Celebrating Jesus’ birth is not a command in the Bible, but it is a good practice to follow. His birth, His life, and His death have changed human history for the good.

Legislative update

Senator Janne Myrdal | North Dakota District 19 Snow is falling, the Christmas tree is up, and cookies are baking in the oven (Norwegian heritage demands at least seven types be baked for Christmas). It is good to be at home when a blizzard is lurking outside.

Maybe I’m just getting old, but it seems like I’m usually a little bit more ahead of the curve than I was this year when it comes to decorating the house for Christmas.
