Letter to Editor

Dear Editor, I read with interest Siobhan Koissee's article on Army Ducks. I would like to piggyback on that subject, as I have an Army Duck story as well. I am Curtis Engelbrektson and a long time subscriber to Valley News & Views.

Mike mentioned ‘whirlwind’ in his column again this week and I can truly relate. Currently, I’m sitting at Midwest Eye Laboratories in Minneapolis to have my prosthetic adjusted.

According to the calendar, summer is officially upon us. I wish I could slow the clock a bit and stretch these warm days out a little bit longer. In my email and social media I keep seeing messages such as a link to register for the ice skating season, and an ad for fall sports physicals.

Just over a year ago at this time I was certain, in my mind at least, that I had written my last column for this newspaper and that my career in the newspaper industry was completely over.

Happy Anniversary! This issue of our favorite newspaper marks the one year anniversary of new ownership of Valley News & Views. What a year it’s been! It has been a learning experience on my part both in how to be a publisher, but also all the new software I have learned how to use.

As Andrea said, happy anniversary to Valley News & Views! Reflecting on this past year, I’ve faced so many challenges both in my professional and personal life. At the same time, these challenges have helped me grow and become a better editor and person!

My Two Cents | Fishing time is here

The other day I drove past the Red River west of Grafton and down next to the bridge a couple of guys were enjoying the morning fishing. Obviously, they were fishing for catfish. Each had a lawn chair on the shore and each had a line propped up in front of them.
