Reprinted from May 23, 2020 A friend gifted me with some old cookbooks. I have been enjoying going thru them. The first one is from the Drayton Bowesmont PTA. I haven’t tried these recipes but thought it would be fun the share them.

Pembina County 4-H’ers Winners Indoor Archery Circuit

North Dakota 4-H Indoor Archery circuit recognized two Pembina County 4-H for their high point placings even though the season’s final state matches were cancelled. Emily Sharp, Cavalier, was the Archer of the Year. She also was the Senior Freestyle Champion with combined score of 596.

May is National Osteoporosis Month

(SPM Wire) May is National Osteoporosis Month, and a good reminder of the importance of bone health. Osteoporosis is a disease that results from bones losing their density or mass, and can lead to painful broken bones and reduced mobility. Unfortunately, this condition is common.

If you are looking for some easy to grow plants that produce into a ready-to-eat product in 8 weeks or less make sure and plant green onions in your garden or containers. I plant starts or seeds in between rows because they are perfect for use as a “filler crop” of slower growing vegetables.

This time of spring is one of my favorites because of all the fresh fruit. We enjoyed some really good blackberries this weekend. This said I was thinking about shortcake, because if allergies we don’t use strawberries but there are many of fruits just as good.

Thinking About Health

The headlines have been grim. Seventeen bodies piled up in the morgue at a New Jersey nursing home. Fifty-five residents dead in Brooklyn, N.Y. In one week, 104 residents dead in a facility in western Pennsylvania and 102 dead at a home in San Antonio.

Senior Citizen Update

Updates to Senior Citizen Meal Program, Foot Care and Public Transportation The North Dakota Department of Human Service, Aging Services Division, is requiring all Senior Citizen Congregate Meal Sites to remain closed until June 30, 2020.

I for one am really hoping that spring is really here. It sure is slow in arriving. Here is a rhubarb recipe to try and a peanut butter brownie recipe. Rhubarb Crunch 3 cups rhubarb 1 cup sugar 3 tablespoons flour Mix together and place in a greased 9x13 cake pan.
