Kevin James Onstad, 55, of Drayton, North Dakota passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023 peacefully at his home after many years of battling cancer.
Kevin Onstad was born Feb. 16, 1968 in Grafton, North Dakota to Earl and Arlene (Puppe) Onstad. He grew up in Drayton and attended school there until he graduated in 1986. On Dec. 5, 1998, he married Melissa Landsem in Grafton. Together they had two children, Christopher Gerald Onstad and Colton James Onstad. They lived in Grand Forks until they moved into his childhood home in Drayton. Kevin worked at American Crystal Sugar Company for many years, while also working for Larson Farms and McMartin Farms. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Drayton. Kevin’s favorite way to spend his free time was to play pinochle or cribbage, while enjoying a cold beer. He could play all day as long as he wasn’t losing. Kevin also loved spending his time riding motorcycles. He passed his love of card games and motorcycles to his sons.
Kevin is survived by his children, Christopher (Megan Benitt), West Fargo, Colton (Elizabeth Stevens), Grand Forks; his children’s mother Melissa Onstad (Jay Kringstad); siblings Kathy (Daryl) Holzmer, Forest Lake, Minnesota, and David Onstad, Seattle, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother Robert Onstad.
The memorial service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in Austin Funeral Chapel, Drayton. Visitation was one hour prior to the service.
