Reverend Alcyd N. Soderfelt passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 14, 2023. He was born in Grafton, ND on June 21, 1938, to Anne and Kenneth Soderfelt. He was the oldest of eight children and was raised on a farm in Drayton, ND.
Alcyd was a minister for most of his adult life. He served parishes across the state on MN, including Pine City, Brooklyn Park, Blue Earth, Mahtomedi, Inver Grove Heights, Janesville and Elysian. He retired to Ely, MN to be closer to family.
Alcyd was a minister, writer, poet, and a friend to all. He loved cheering on his children and grandchildren at sporting events, eating cookies, and drinking coffee. He had the ability to cheer people up and say just the right thing no matter the circumstance.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Anne, and his grandson, Alcyd (Cyd) Soderfelt.
He is survived by his four children, Sarah (Scott) Anderson, Heidi (Tom) Omerza, Rachel Soderfelt, and Alcyd (Allison) Soderfelt and his seven siblings Adeline Smith, Arlene (Gerald) Seemann, Alan Soderfelt, Alon Soderfelt, Allard Soderfelt, Angie (Carl) Wiebe, and Art (Beth) Soderfelt; cousin Cheryl (Jack) Hartwig. Additionally, he leaves behind ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life was held at the Ely United Methodist Church on Friday, July 28th at 11 AM with Visitation held at 10 AM. There was a luncheon after in the church basement.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the “Activities Fund” at Carefree Assisted Living or Incredible Ely.
