For over 50 years now, basketball tournament time has been a magical time of year for me. As Friday marked the beginning of the 2023 North Dakota Girls’ Basketball tournament season, I thought I’d share a few tournament memories with you. My first tournament memories go back to the early 1970s.

I don’t know about you, but for the most part, I was pretty entertained watching Super Bowl LVII this past weekend. I was pulling for the Kansas City Chiefs to win and certainly wasn’t cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles. I boldly stated that in my column in the Jan. 26 issue of VNV.

Congrats to the Kansas City Chiefs on the big win last weekend. I don’t follow pro football, but since I lived in Kansas City for a number of years, I think it’s neat that they won. If you’re wondering if I watched the Superbowl, the answer is no. I don’t even bother with the halftime show anymore.

Tis the season for basketball, gymnastics and figure skating. Between those three things, the pickup and drop off routine has been keeping this momma busy. We have come to the fun part though, the halftime gymnastics routines and basketball tournaments.
