My brain works in funny ways sometimes, how I associate one thing with another. A few days ago on the morning radio show I appear on, the anniversary of the commissioning of the United State’s first nuclear powered aircraft carrier was mentioned. That ship was named the USS Enterprise.

I think folks in our society, our nation, take a lot of things for granted. Especially here in rural North Dakota and throughout rural America. We have it good. For the most part, we expect to live lives relatively free of crime and conflict.

I have a love for Christmas music. The old songs, the new remakes, and even the odd ones. If you want to make the kiddos laugh, put on Gayla Peevey’s song ‘I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.’ For a more adult version of that song, listen to Kacey Musgraves’ version.

After a few years of daily workouts, first the recumbent exercise and then the spin bike, I started feeling like I needed to change things up a bit. So, I started looking at treadmills and ellipticals. Since I was using the iFit app on both bikes I figured I would stick with iFit brand equipment.

If you read my column last week, you’ll know that my 11 year old daughter had an accident and suffered a concussion. Doctor’s orders were no screens, no reading, no bright lights or activity, and close monitoring. That posed a challenge to me as her mom.

A wonderful man passed away last week. Long time readers of this column may remember when my bride and I often journeyed to Staples, Minnesota where we spent time with her uncle and aunt, Ken and Mary Jane Lingenfelter.
