Sunshine Week: Fighting a virus with truth and transparency

As the scope and threat of the coronavirus pandemic becomes clear, people all over the world hunger for two things: an effective vaccine and truthful information about the disease. The former may be more than a year away, but the latter is critical to stemming the pandemic in the meantime.

This week is Sunshine week. This is a week that typically highlights issues surrounding the First Amendment and Government transparency along with the importance of newspapers. This week there is another topic that has been consuming the news and the lives in many households.

Virus Pandemic at Our Doorstep

With the possibility of a 2020 virus pandemic, it is time for North Dakotans to be reminded of the devastation that occurred in the country and the state when influenza raged in 1918. It gives us a serious lesson so that we don’t take the threat too casually and expect to continue life as usual.
