Dear Rusty: I have a big 65th birthday coming up mid-March and would like your advice on registering for Social Security and Medicare. I am now unemployed, but I am seeking another gig to get me to age 67 before taking Social Security.

I went to work one day. It seemed to be a routine morning. By noon I could barely walk. I returned home with a back pain. I would be bed-ridden for the next 3 to 4 months. It was a slow road back to walking. I went to several doctors without a diagnosis. I took up a regime of vitamins and aspirin.

Since last March it seems that our lives have been turned upside down. So how do I deal with all the craziness? I take each day as it comes. This is a lesson that I learned many years ago. It is something that is not always easy and is sometimes better in theory than in practice.

So I sucked the joy right out of Monday, over the past few years with all of my health issues, I have found ways to suck the joy right out of several days. To my credit this time I went with one of the familiar old standbys rather than bringing another new ailment to the party.
