Am I able to collect any of his benefits?

Dear Rusty: My husband and I were only married 5 years before he passed away from cancer. I am 61 and was told by SS that I don’t qualify to receive his survivor benefits because we weren’t married long enough, and because I made more money than him when he was alive.

Legislative Update

Independence Day celebrations are over, - and there was rain in most of D10. We have much to be thankful for. Yet hoping for more rain to restore droughty crops all over the state. I wanted to wrap up the 2021 Session a bit and report on the Interim studies coming up.

Independence Day is not just a movie title...

When you mention Independence Day there are some people who immediately think about the movie by that title. This past weekend the country just celebrated Independence Day which also and now more commonly goes by Fourth of July or July 4th. This brings to mind a question or two.

When I hear a sentence that starts with these three words I start to cringe. Rumors are something that I do my best to stay away from. Small towns are always filled with more rumors that anyone can keep track of. You never know what you hear is true or not. I follow one simple rule of thumb.

A letter I would like to write to the good folks at Apple (but probably won’t).

I love my Apple Watch; I use it for a great variety of things, but its main uses are all health related. I like to keep a close watch on my heart and monitor my pulse and blood oxygen on a regular basis, I also do an ECG on at least five days of every week.

You Can Learn a lot by Getting Old

It’s true. As you experience life, you can accumulate an incredible amount of knowledge. Unfortunately, at a certain age you can’t remember most of it. While aging is a disadvantage for most people, those with a fighting spirit have had their best years over 70.
