A bill to provide free meals for North Dakota students failed by two votes in the state Senate on Friday, Jan. 23. House Bill 1624 failed in the Senate 24-22. It had passed in the house, 55-38 a day earlier on Thursday, Jan. 22.

Last month there was a statewide contest for fourth, fifth, and sixth graders to find small words in the name, “Thanksgiving Day.” There were 36 entries from Osnabrock, Cavalier, Langdon, Flasher, and Richardton-Taylor.Winners are: Sixth grade - 1. Malachi Economy, Osnabrock with 135 words.
