My Two Cents | Harvest time

For most farmers out there harvest time is just about over. It’s time to concentrate on post harvest activities and look back on what was the 2023 season.

Are you ready for Halloween? I am not. I have one kid’s costume ordered and the other won’t make a decision about what to dress up as (tween turmoil). I still need to buy candy and figure out what to send to school with kiddos for them to hand out among their classmates.

Bowesmont Lives

This was a good week for finishing the harvesting of many crops, but not so good for harvesting news items. On Monday Merv and Phyllis Holter and Saralee Hoselton were among those who had dinner at the Sugar Bowl Senior Citizen’s Center. Saralee stayed for an afternoon of cards and socializing.

Dear Editor, I am breaking my own rule about avoiding controversy and weighing in on the upcoming Halloween observance. So, which is it—the Devil’s Holiday promoted by some scary cult or an innocent time for kids to dress up as vampires, princesses or anything in between while gorging on candy?

As I write this on Monday morning no one has even ventured a guess.

My Two Cents | Memory lane and gophers

I could probably rename my column “Strolling down memory lane” because I find myself doing that more often than not, week in and week out. I’ve often thought of recalling memories as therapeutic. I choose to recall happy memories and not dwell on past sorrows.

Bowesmont Lives

Oct. 3rd Saralee Hoselton had lunch at the Sugar Bowl Senior citizen’s Center. Afterwards she went to the Drayton United Methodist Church to attend the funeral for Nancy Billings. Others attending included Merv and Phyllis Holter, Mike and Judy Stellon, Landon Mapel and Gayle McConnell.
