Sunday was road trip day; 235 miles one way from Drayton to Staples, Minnesota for uncle Ken’s memorial service. There were a few side trips thrown in, mostly driving around Staples to see the sights in case we do not get back that way soon.

My nephew, Ben turned 18 years old on Sunday. Ben and I share one big thing in common and that is our love for fishing. Ben lives in Spooner, a small town in northwest Wisconsin. The area is surrounded by plenty of lakes and rivers, meaning there’s no shortage of fishing opportunities.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at my house. The tree is up and so are the outdoor lights and decorations. I have several gifts wrapped and on the bookcase shelves (thanks to Hugo, our puppy…). We purchased two new stockings for the mantle this year.

My brain works in funny ways sometimes, how I associate one thing with another. A few days ago on the morning radio show I appear on, the anniversary of the commissioning of the United State’s first nuclear powered aircraft carrier was mentioned. That ship was named the USS Enterprise.
