Shirley Ann (Spilde) Hermanson passed away peacefully at age 73 on July 30, 2026, in Grafton, North Dakota.
Shirley was born on April 22, 1953, to Arthur and Cora Spilde. She was raised in Halma, Minnesota, and attended school in Karlstad, Minnesota. On September 12, 1971, Shirley was united in marriage to Richard Hermanson.
Together they made their home in Drayton, North Dakota. Shirley and Richard had four children: Mark (Jessica) Hermanson of Drayton, ND; Tammy (William) Hiltner of Casselton, ND; Jason Hermanson of Drayton, ND; and Mary Ann (Colin) Nagengast of Apple Valley, MN.
Shirley enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors in Drayton.
She loved tending to her flower gardens and listening to music.
She cherished time spent with her grandchildren, and her strong Christian faith was central to her life. Shirley is survived by her four children; eight grandchildren— Brittany, Austin, Madison, Nathan, Taylor, Maia, Brandon, and Jordan; and many friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Cora; her husband, Richard; her brothers, Alton and Albert; and her grandson, Johnathan.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Collins Funeral Home in Karlstad, with Pastor Leroy Aufenkamp presiding.
Visitation will be held one hour prior. Interment will follow at Pauli Lutheran Cemetery of Pelan.
Shirley’s kindness, faith, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew her, and her love continues to live on in the family she cherished.
