Growing up, the newspaper was just part of life.
My mom and grandparents relied on it. My grandma used to joke when she opened the paper that she was checking to make sure her obituary wasn’t in that day’s issue.
I didn’t necessarily understand journalism or the importance of a newspaper back then. I just knew there were certain parts I wanted to get my hands on.
