Richard Lloyd Hermanson was born on December 13, 1946, on his family farm in Pelan, Mn to Lloyd and Clara (Wolff) Hermanson. He attended school in Karlstad where he graduated in 1964. He then went on to serve 2 years in the Army. He was united in marriage to Shirley Spilde on September 12, 1971, at Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Halma, Mn and the two made their home in Drayton, ND. Richard worked for American Crystal Sugar in Drayton for many years and worked for Merle Nelson farms doing what he loved. He also worked carpentry jobs in his free time and loved being out on his John Deere lawn mower helping to keep lawns nicely trimmed. Richard passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2023, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND at the age of 76.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, 2 sons Mark (Jessica) Hermanson, Jason Hermanson both of Drayton, ND, daughters Tammy (William) Hiltner of Casselton, ND and MaryAnn (Colin) Nagengast of Apple Valley, MN. He is also survived by his grandchildren his 9 Grandchildren Brittany, Johnathan, Austin, Madison, Nathan, Taylor, Maia, Brandon and Jordon, his brother Jim (Shelly) Hermanson and sister Sandra Carlson both of Thief River Falls, Mn. along with many nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Thomas at birth and brother in law Gary Carlson. A Memorial Service was held at 11:00AM, Friday, July 7, 2023 at Collins Funeral Home in Karlstad with Pastor LeRoy Aufenkamp presiding. Special music was provided by Richard’s grandchildren Brittany and Johnathan Hiltner.
Interment services were held at Pauli Lutheran Cemetery of Pelan.
