Joann A. Mattson, age 82 of Drayton, ND passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.
Joann A. Votava was born December 7, 1937 in Grafton, ND the daughter of the late Jerome and Helena (Deschene) Votava. She attended St. Aloysius Academy in Oakwood, ND and graduated the class of 1955. Joann was united in marriage to Roger Mattson on October 4, 1958 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Oakwood. They moved to Colorado Springs, CO while Roger served in the military. They moved back to Drayton, ND in 1963 and Joann began working for the telephone company. She finished her career working and retiring from Unity Medical Center in Grafton.
Joann was a member of Sacred Heart Church of Oakwood, a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society, served on the Martin Township Board, and she and Roger were foster parents. Joann loved to play cards, bowl, and spend time with her family.
She is survived by her husband Roger: children; Todd (Kelley) Mattson, Drayton, ND: Tracy (Dan) Young, Park River, ND; grandchildren: Jonathon (Vanessa) Mattson, Grand Forks, ND; Michael Young, Grand Forks, ND; great grandchildren: Aubree and Odin Mattson; siblings: Dennis (Linda) Votava, St.Cloud, MN; Rosemary (Byron) Waterud, Bismarck, ND; and Marge (Joe) Ellefson, Mandan, ND; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Joann was preceded in death by her parents, her sons: Toby and Troy, and her sister Jeannie.
Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M., followed by a time of sharing at 10:00 A.M. Social Distancing guidelines will be observed and masks are recommended. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery of Oakwood.
