Alden Duane Johnson, 83, of Apache Junction, Arizona, formerly of Drayton, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025. A devoted husband, father, and friend, Alden will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind heart, and deep devotion to his family and the farming life he loved.
Born on February 26, 1942, in Drayton, North Dakota, Alden was the son of Clarence and Hilda (Wilmer) Johnson. He graduated from Crookston Agricultural School and continued his education in Wahpeton, where he studied mechanics. Alden proudly served his country as a member of the Minnesota National Guard before returning home to work the land alongside his brother, Harris. Farming became not just his livelihood, but his true calling — a legacy built on hard work, dedication, and care for the community around him.
On November 6, 1975, Alden married Linda Kemp at Teien Covenant Church, beginning fifty beautiful years of partnership marked by laughter, shared adventures, and enduring love. Together they built a strong and happy life, raising three children: Shane, Staci, and Shelby.
Alden's commitment to his family was unwavering and a constant source of support and love.
Alden was a proud member of the Stephen Masonic Lodge, the KEM Shriners, and the Eagle Point Township Board, participating in organizations that reflected his generosity and commitment to others.
Alden found joy in life's simple pleasures: cheering for the Vikings on Sundays and John Wayne movies, listening to Don Williams, attending the Minnesota State Fair where the first stops were always Machinery Hill and grabbing a cheese on a stick, camping and fishing with family, and deer hunting — though often he was just as content quietly watching the woods. He loved to curl at both the Stephen and Drayton Curling Clubs and enjoyed convincing his children that was where his curly hair came from. He enjoyed taking peaceful drives to check on the crops. Even after retirement, he could often be found lending a helping hand on the farm, never one to sit idle.
Alden is survived by his devoted wife, Linda; his children Shane, Staci (Garrit) Winge, and Shelby; as well as his grandchildren, Fathom Kidd, Ty, Nicholas, and Olivia Winge, Cadence, Piper, and Parker Johnson; and many nieces and nephews who made him immensely proud. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Hilda Johnson, his brother, Harris Johnson, sister-in-law, Harriet Johnson, brother-in-law, Tom Korpatnicki, and his nieces, Amber Redmann and Alyssa Fukumoto.
Alden's life was a testament to kindness, hard work, and love—a legacy that will continue through all who knew him.
A funeral service for Alden was held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in Drayton Lutheran Church. Visitation was held at the church for an hour before the service.
