A Brush with the Bunch

Although we just made it through yet another blizzard, the Brush Bunch is already planning how we are going to be spending our spring and summer. At our monthly meeting last week we discussed all of the projects coming up in the near future.

DAKOTA DATEBOOK: 1941 Blizzard

March 15, 2023 — On March 14, 1941, in western North Dakota, the temperature suddenly dropped from 33 to 7 below, and winds picked up to 40 miles an hour.

Progress continues at the Stanley R. Mickelsen site

Bitzero continues to develop the Stanley R. Mickelsen site near Nekoma into one day being a fully running data center. The company finalized its purchase back in 2022, but it is still receiving assistance from the Cavalier County Job Development Authority.

DAKOTA DATEBOOK: Ice Harvesting

March 14, 2023 — In the days before refrigeration, one important winter task was ice harvesting. A hundred years ago, ice houses were insulated buildings in which ice was packed in sawdust; if the sawdust was dry enough, the ice would keep throughout an entire summer without refrigeration.

Bob’s big adventure - Part 7

In this week’s chapter, we learn you can’t judge a book by its cover. The trip from Madison, Wisc., to near Cincinnati went smoothly, although when I stopped for dinner at a Texas Roadhouse near Gary, Indiana, I experienced a certain degree of anxiety over where I would park this new rental truck.

Students from Grafton area to attend health career awareness camp

Grafton, N.D. – One hundred seventy students in ninth grade will take part in the Rural Collaborative Opportunities for Occupational Learning in Health (R-COOL-Health) Scrubs Camp on March 22 and 29, hosted by and held at Unity Medical Center.

Hartz receives Teacher of the Month honors

Mrs. LaRae Hartz, pre-K teacher at Valley-Edinburg School in Hoople was named the Maverick 105.1 January Teacher of the Month. Rat and Sarah from The Maverick Morning Madhouse delivered a pizza party to Mrs. Hartz's class on Friday, Feb. 24.

Prism of Prose

The book of Psalms contains many components of revival, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart” (Ps. 51:17, NKJV). Search the heart for iniquity and repent. This is the path back into a right relationship with God.
