Senior Citizen Update

This is the time of the year that all senior citizens are encouraged to review their Medicare Part D prescription drug plans. The Open Enrollment period is from October 15-December 7. Many things may change in the prescription drug plans from year to year: cost, which drugs are covered and percentage of amount covered, and which pharmacies accept which plans. If you are not reviewing your prescription drug plan every year, you may be paying too much for your prescriptions.

The North Dakota Insurance Department holds annual enrollment events across the state to help people on Medicare decide which Medicare Part D prescription drug plan is best for them. There is an enrollment event being held in Grand Forks on Tuesday, October 15th, from 8:00 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Canad Inns. Individuals will be helped on a first come, first served basis. People will need to bring a list of current medications, including dosage and frequency; Medicare card, and the full name of your current plan.

People may also receive assistance by calling the Options Resource Center for Independent Living in Cavalier, 701-265-4618. Your local pharmacist may also be able to assist you. You may also call the State Health Insurance Counseling program (SHIC) at 701-328-2440 or 800-247-0560.Or visit Medicare.gov or call 1-800-Medicare (1-800-633-4227).
