Well, as I write this column, the Iran – United States conflict continues. In a normal political climate, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle would have by now coalesced behind our military action and have shown solidarity while our troops are in harm’s way overseas.

I left you last week as the Simmons family was enjoying an afternoon outing on a private tour boat charter in the local waters near Anna Maria Island on the Gulf side of the Florida coast. Our boat captain and tour guide, all rolled into one, was the affable Captain Kenny.

I’ve decided to chime in this week because I want to express how completely impressed I am by the young people growing up in Drayton. It’s not often that I have a front page that is overrun with impressive locals, but this week I actually struggled to fit in all the good news.

If I were to name them all, it would probably fill this entire page, if not more.

Last month Di and I escaped the NoDak cold for a week in the Florida sun. In the past we’ve enjoyed trips to Miami and the Keys. In recent years, Di and her girlfriends have had great getaways in the Clearwater area. This time, we decided on Anna Maria Island and the surrounding area.
