Letter from the Publisher

Vacation is over and it’s back to school for our area children. I love this! I like having a routine, a schedule to follow, and knowing what to expect out of our day-to-day comings and goings. Winter break, although a great amount of fun, gets me all out of sorts.

The Oak Ridge Boys are my second favorite Country Music Vocal group. They are a very, very close runner up to my all time favorites, the Statler Brothers.

At my house, classic TV is a given. My 93-year-old father-in-law enjoys watching reruns of westerns, Perry Mason, Andy Griffith, and Gomer Pyle.

My Two Cents | Remember the reason for the season

Noise. Noise. Noise. No, it’s not the kind that makes you plug your ears, like an explosion. It’s more insidious than that. I’m talking about the flood of messages we are bombarded with day in and day out from a wide range of sources. If you listen to all the noise it can be overwhelming.

“The townsfolk will blame us for bringing the cold and show up with torches and pitchforks, I just know it,” is the text message I woke up to from Phil this morning (he has quite the sense of humor).

Just like that, the holidays are behind us for another 12 months and the new year is upon us. Do you have a new year’s resolution? I’ve never been in the habit of choosing something to resolve.

“BOMBERS WEEKLY” COLUMN

This week at the school has been pretty eventful, and between dissecting animals to concerts, it has been a fun one. On Monday, the week started with the elementary school having STEM labs, then midway through the day, the high school and 6th grade had a “house teams'' event.

I wish a very merry Christmas to each and every one of you. This is probably my busiest time of year and I expect that many of you are in the same boat.

I had planned to start writing my column from the truck (once again!) today but the state of North Dakota must not want us to leave. I’ve been closely watching the cameras and map all morning on the NDDOT website and Phil and I have been playing things by ear.

My Two Cents | Fun, like the good ol’ days

Ever since I was a kid, there’s always been something special about snow. I’ve also had a special place in my heart for that heavy, wet snow that usually comes in the spring – the kind that is perfect for making snow forts and snowmen and snowballs, which in turn help to facilitate snowball fights.
