This will be my final column for the growing season. I have enjoyed sharing information and recipes with you and I hope I have inspired many of you to try growing new fruits, vegetables and herbs as well as cooking with them in unique ways.

Plentiful apples

This year proved to be a good year for apples. I was lucky enough to be gifted many apples of which were turned into many delicious treats.

Senior Citizen Update

There are some events coming up at the Sugar Bowl Senior Center. September 21st: Pembina County Public Health will be here from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. to give flu shots. October 11th: Sugar Bowl Senior Citizens will be having a Membership Drive/Pizza Party at 12:00 noon.

Legislative Report

The Interim Redistricting Committee on which I serve has been meeting for about a month now. We would have normally been meeting much earlier in the summer, but the census numbers were delayed causing us to have to meet much later than usual and be more rushed.

Beet harvest casseroles

With sugar beet harvest in full swing it’s nice to have a couple casseroles ready for hungry workers.
